Jourdan Bennett-Begaye is a citizen of the Diné (Navajo), who is pursuing her Master of Arts degree in the magazine, newspaper & online journalism program at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communication at Syracuse University. She’s an intern at Syracuse.com and The Post-Standard as part of the Newhouse Minorities Fellowship. In 2014, she co-founded the Survival of the First Voices Festival, an art and media for Native American, First Nations, and indigenous youth in New Mexico. She received additional journalism training at American Indian Journalism Institute and the Native American Journalism Fellowship. She’s written for The Independent at Fort Lewis College, Native Voices, The Daily Times Newspaper, and Native Peoples Magazine and enjoys covering indigenous rights and issues celebrating her indigenous culture. Jourdan is a huge fan of Apolo Anton Ohno, Shoni Schimmel, Jacoby Ellsbury, and the Los Angeles Angels. Because of her dad’s influence, she also roots for the Minnesota Vikings.
